All about the City Tour: Qoricancha, Sacsayhuaman & Qenqo.

The city of Cusco, the cradle of the Inca empire is the main tourist destination that every traveler visits before any other archaeological center like Machu Picchu, Salkantay, Ausangate, Mountain of Colors, Choquequirao and other sites that have great popularity.

We recommend travelers acclimatize to the altitude before starting a long tour (minimum 1 day), this way avoids altitude sickness or “soroche”.

This tour is perfect for acclimatization, a tour inside the magical city of Cusco exploring different architectural centers such as Saqsayhuaman, Qenqo, Puca Pucara, Tambomachay, the Main Cathedral of Cusco and Qoricancha.

    1. Day 1: CUSCO – QORIKANCHA – SACSAYHUAMAN – QENQO – PUKA PUKARA – TAMBOMACHAY

The tour has two different schedules (the itinerary will be the same):

Morning: 7:00 am to 12:00 pm.

Afternoon: 2:00 pm to 7:00 pm.

We will begin our beautiful adventure by picking up our travelers from their hotels or meeting at an agreed point.

Our first destination is “La Basílica Catedral de la Virgen de la Asunción” built 550 years ago to be the palace of the Inca Wiracocha which was destroyed and on its foundations was built a Catholic church in Spanish conquest.

Our second tourist destination is “The Qoricancha” an antique Inca temple that was occupied by the virgins of the sun it was covered with pure gold inside and outside and during the conquest, it was profaned, they looted the treasures and destroyed part of the original temple to fuse it with their culture.

The guide will explain these events, then we will board our tourist transport to drive us to the third destination “Saqsayhuaman” an enigmatic place made of huge rocks that are piled up forming walls of over 5 meters high, in the guide’s company will make a tour throughout the archaeological center. (It is in this place where the Inca ceremony of the “Intiraymi” is celebrated every year on June 24th).

We will visit our fourth tourist destination “Qenqo” a ceremonial center that Incas used to make offerings to mother earth and rituals to their mummies, you will visit the place with our guide and know its history.

The fifth destination will be “Puca Pucara”, a small citadel that served as a fortress for the Inca’s soldiers, its main attraction being the red color of its walls, this for the high concentration of iron that the earth of the zone contains.

Our last destination is “Tambomachay” which was a resting place and water cult enclosure, you will know its history during the trip. We will return to the Plaza de Armas. End of our services.
